WordPress Support and Setup
WordPress powers a huge share of the web because it is flexible, well-supported, and, when set up correctly, genuinely manageable by non-technical people. The catch is the phrase “when set up correctly.” A poorly configured WordPress site creates ongoing headaches: plugin conflicts, slow load times, security vulnerabilities, and content that is hard to update.
David Martin Design has been building on WordPress since the early days, and our principal teaches it through Indiana University. We can help at any stage: a fresh build, a troublesome existing site, or anything in between.
What We Can Help With
New sites: We build them right from the start. That means clean theme setup, only the plugins you actually need, SEO configured before launch, and hosting that will not slow things down.
Existing sites: We can audit what is there, clean up plugin bloat, fix performance and speed issues, resolve conflicts, improve how search engines read your content, and handle content updates. If you are transferring your site from another designer, we have a clear process for taking over an existing site without disrupting what is already working.
Specific areas include: theme setup and customization, plugin installation and management, SEO and metadata implementation with Yoast or Rank Math, Google Analytics and Search Console configuration, image optimization, security hardening, spam control, and content editing as needed.
Ongoing Support vs. One-Time Help
Some clients need a one-time fix: a broken page, a plugin conflict, or a site that has been compromised. Others want ongoing support so they are not managing WordPress updates, backups, and security patches on their own. For ongoing work, our managed hosting plan includes routine maintenance as part of the service. For one-time requests, we work on a straightforward hourly basis.
A Note on Learning to Manage Your Own Site
If you would prefer to handle updates yourself, we are happy to help you get there. We teach WordPress at IU and have written site documentation for clients who want to be self-sufficient. The goal is for you to feel confident about your website, whatever that looks like for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
My site was built by someone else. Can you take it over?
Yes. We start by reviewing what is there, identifying any issues, and making sure we understand the setup before making changes. If it is well-built, we will say so. If there are problems worth addressing, we will explain them clearly.
Can you fix a hacked or broken WordPress site?
Yes. Site recovery and security cleanup are work we handle regularly. We will restore from backup if available, clean any malicious code, harden the site against repeat intrusions, and explain what happened and how to prevent it.
Do I need to be on a hosting plan to work with you?
No. We can provide support for sites hosted elsewhere. That said, sites we host directly benefit from coordinated updates and faster troubleshooting since we have direct server access.
